I love painting rocks. There is something so satisfying when you paint something that looks heavy and solid. This painting was done on panel. I toned the panel with transparent red oxide. I then really started working with other transparent pigments. After that first round, I started the build up of the opaque layers of paint. I’m very happy with the atmosphere that this helped to create.
Hi, just came across your blog and wanted to tell you how much I LOVE this!
Did you paint it en plein air? Where is it?
It could so easily be here in Skiathos…..
Thank you Yvonne!
This painting started as a plein air sketch. I came back to it in my studio later, once things had dried.
It was done in northern Minnesota, along Lake Superior, near the mouth of the Baptism River.
