I finally launched the new online home for me, Minnesota painter, Jeffrey Smith! So what does the mean for you?  It means that there is a whole slue of new posts to read over at the Jeffrey Smith Art.    I promise lots of posts focusing on the artistic process and what I paint.

Jeffrey Smith's pochade box set-up. Don't you just love photos where you can see the painting and the actual environment?

I have spent the entire summer plein air painting, and working on my farmer tan.  I have lots and lots that I’d love to share about the process of painting, and the practice of setting artist goals.   Check it out.  If you like what you find, consider joining my mailing list.

Drawing class at The Atelier

Drawing class at The Atelier

After a great summer break, my weekly portrait class has begun again at The Atelier in Minneapolis.  After our first night, last night, I think this is going to be a really great group to work with. I’m lucky as a teacher to have several returning student.  It’s always nice to think that people take a class from you, learned something, and had a good enough time along the way to want to do it again.

My portrait class runs for 15 weeks in the main figure room at The Atelier.  For anyone interested, I do have a couple of spots left.

The images above were discovered in The Atelier archives.  They feature a much younger Jeffrey Smith as a first year student at The Atelier way back in 1999.

Alaskan Trail, 18x24" oil on linen

Alaskan Trail, 18x24

It’s Labor Day, which means summer is coming to an end.  In honor of that, I wanted to show off what’s currently on my easel.  A summery scene,  Alaskan Trail is an 18×24″ oil painting done from some field sketches and reference photos.  There is still more work to be done, but I feel like I really made some good progress on it today!
