Italy

Work continues on this painting. I’m looking forward to coming to an end on this one, and starting something new!  My plan is to start up with my daily painting project again… I miss doing something that only takes a few hours to complete.

Italy…the update

So things are finally starting to come together…I’m feeling like I’m rounding a corner on this painting.  I’ve grown to really

enjoy using a limited number of pigments…Decision making is certainly alot simpler with only 6 colors!

Italy, a work in progress

I’ve been struggling with the paint surface on this piece all along…I decided, “Maybe my white paint isn’t as fresh as it could or for that mater, should be.” For those of you who don’t think that paint can be old even right from the store, think again.  I headed off to the studio today, new tube of white in hand…what a difference!  It was a joy to work on this piece as opposed to the chore that it had been.  I expect great things from this tube of white paint!  For those wondering, the new super paint is from Gamblin. I think it’s a great paint, at a great price.

Italy

Today’s post is a work in progress shot of an on going commision painting.  The painting has gone through more than it’s fair share of changes over the years since I was approached to do it.  I’m very pleased with the direction that the painting is taking.  I feel like I still have miles to go on this one, but that’s to be expected with a 36″x42″ canvas.

Stream

I finally made it back to the studio today.  I’m with out air conditioning, and it was really hot again today in Minneapolis.  I decided to grab my brushes, and head out to do some plein air work.  Today is a double post.  The first one, Stream, took about an hour and a half, and is painted on a panel.  The second, Park, took about 45 minutes, and is also painted on a panel.  Landscape has always been a love of mine, and I’m excited to be getting back into it.

Leeks, a work in progress

oil painting by Jeffrey Smith

Today marks the end of  he road for another still life.  I’ve been working on this one for the better part of a month now in preparation for a birthday gift.  I’m very plaesed with the outcome.  This painting has allowed me the opportunity to paint a number of different textures, as well as objects that I may have shyed away from

Leeks, work in progress update 3

Work on Leeks continues.  I only have a couple more opportunities to work on this painting.  My focus has been on pushing the onions and leeks, as they are the things that are going to change the most.  I’m happy with those now, and I’m thinking it’s time to really push the crystal vase and the blue and white pot.  After that, I just have to wrap up the pattern on the printed cloth.
